Statin medications are usually prescribed to people who have high cholesterol or are advised to lose weight, and others also advise to reduce the amount of salt in the diet, and stop drinking alcohol and smoking.

However, just adding certain types of nutrients to the diet can help lower cholesterol.

According to the British newspaper “Express”, fruit can benefit people looking to lower cholesterol, in addition to its beautiful flavor.

“Pomegranate is often recommended to help with cardiovascular disease, especially with the possibility of lowering cholesterol levels,” said nutritionist Shona Wilkinson.

Pomegranate is thought to work in a variety of ways,

including reducing oxidation, supporting nitric oxide activity, and inhibiting the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) also known as bad cholesterol. Pomegranate also contains certain antioxidants known as “polyphenols”.

The expert added: “You can buy pomegranate and add it to different types of food, or you can drink its juice. If you buy pomegranate juice, check the ingredients, because some pomegranate juices have amounts of added sugar that are clearly harmful to health.” The nutritionist also recommended adding fibers to the diet to help lower cholesterol, as she says: “It is known that soluble fiber is most famous for lowering cholesterol, when it is part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.”
